The Wildschönau
The Wildschönau is a idyllic hihg valley in middle of Kitzbühel Mountains – without transit and industrie but with 260 active farms, old original pastures and a lot of tradition. The 4160
inhabitants of the four villages Niederau, Oberau, Auffach and Thierbach life from farmwork and tourism. As the Wildschönau is in summer one of the best austrian areas for walking is here in winter the Topp Snowparadies for sportsman aswell as for familiy ski holidays.
Unvorgetable for romantics is a tour to lovely mountain village Thierbach with his small chapele, the old schoolhouse (with only 12 kids the smalest school in austria) two restaurants and the hundret of years old farms.
Niederau
One of the highlights in Oberau is the 250 years old baroque church which is because of his size called the cathedral of the tyrolean country wird. Cozy and traditionel restaurants show the image of Oberau. Here is very central but in a quiet area our House Astoria Wildschönau.
If you go downhill from Oberau you get to Mühltal. Here is the starting point from the excursion trains to the amazing natur canyon Kundler Klamm.
Auffach
In the end of valley is Auffach wherefrom you can start in the new big skiarea Skijuwel Wildschönau - Alpbachtal! This new skisensation belongs to the 10 biggest skiing areas in Tyrol country. The fusion of the skiingareas from Alpbachtal Wiedersbergerhorn and Schatzbergbahn has made a really big territory which yould not be possible to drive in one day. In former times at the Schatzberg Auffach was even a silver coal mining. Even in summer the lift is on and so you can start to trips to middle station Koglmoos with smal kids water play area aswell as to the high station which is starting point for glorious walks to the peak of the Wildschönau Mountains. Auffach is about 3 Kilometers from our hous away! The bus station to go to Auffach is 80 meters from our house.
